Magical Notes:
Although in the llewellyn’s 2015 magical Almanac book Monday has the 21st as the date
for Yule and the official day is actually the 22nd at 4:48 am GMT. Yule floats between the
20th and the 23rd of December, though many of us continue to celebrate well into
Christmas and after. But for your rituals, the 22nd is the correct date.
So what are your plans for the day? For some it will be a complex day of visits to a pagan
site, large rituals, food and celebrations. And for some it maybe much simpler, either because
of time or, like myself, you prefer it that way.
For me my day will consist of a visit to our local woodland. It is something that has become a
tradition for myself and, when possible, my family. I take with me gifts of apples, fat balls or
cakes and wild birdseed. Nature should always be given something in return, and that is
one of my ways. Later I may do a small ritual. But in truth, I don’t always. I try to live my
life magically each and every day and have never been one for great rituals. Being a pagan
and a witch isn’t just about rituals and spells. It’s about how you live each day. When ever I am
Preparing food and cooking, I give thanks to the goddess, god and to those who toiled to
bring me this feast. And when I do do rituals, they are small and personal. But that is just my
own personal way. Each and everyone of us is on a personal journey and in my opinion that
is how it should be. So don’t feel you have failed if all you manage to do is make a toast to Yule
and the returning of the light. It’s what is in your heart that counts and not how big your celebration
is.
So however you celebrate Yule today and tomorrow. Enjoy and celebrate it, I wish you all
a very blessed Yule!
Enjoy and have a blessed and loved week )O(

Yule - Celebrate the Solstice
Yule or the winter Solstice, a day celebrated around the world as a beacon of light in the midst
of darkness. Yule is the longest night of the year, and for many, the winter has come bringing short
days with plenty of cold and not enough light. Yet the solstice is a day of hope, because after this,
the sun begins its slow return, increasing more with every day until the wheel of the year turns,
bringing us around to spring again.
The Goddess is now in her Mother persona, having given birth to the infant god and completing
the cycle of birth, growth, death and rebirth. The Oak King has battled is brother the Holly King and
won back his scepter, and so the waxing portion of the year begins again.
Many families Christmas traditions came from this holiday (listen to carolers sing of
“Yuletide Merry”), making this the perfect holiday to share with Pagan and non-Pagan friends and
family. The fir tree and evergreen boughs represent life in the midst of death, because they survive
when most plants die. So decorate your tree with magical symbols and raise a cup of mulled cider
to the newborn Sun. May the light ever be with you!
